Bursting with colour and creativity showcasing local talent, the Burton at Bideford Annual Schools Exhibition is a firm favourite every year and returned this year for the first time since 2019.
Our annual awards were held on April 20th, when all the children gathered to find out who had been awarded for their outstanding work. The Arts Society, North Devon generously sponsors and provides prizes for those schools that exhibited the most creative and original artwork.
This year our fantastic school award winners were Shebbear College, Great Torrington Bluecoat Primary and Monkleigh Primary School who were all awarded a £100 prize for their schools. Muddy Boots Preschool also received a certificate.
Individual prizes, which included sketchpads and watercolour paints were also given to pupils from Bideford College, Chulmleigh College, Lampard Community College, Shebbear College, Woolsery Primary School, Parkham Primary School, Appledore School & Great Torrington Bluecoat Primary.
Mary-Lu Hick, the Chairperson of the Arts Society North Devon presented the awards, she says, “The Arts Society recognises the role art has to play in child development and are thrilled to be involved each year in awarding prizes. As always the judges are impressed by the high standard and variety of artwork in our local schools”.
The exhibition celebrates, nurtures and showcases the local talent of young artists aged 4 -18 who attend schools in the local area – and of course the work of their dedicated teachers. This engaging exhibition never fails to delight and impress and is an exciting opportunity for the participants to display their work in the gallery for all their family, friends and the public to see.
The full exhibition will be on display until 26 May but much of the work will remain on display for an additional few weeks after this date.
