Last year, we invited local artists to take part in a competition for Public Art Commissions for the Brunswick Wharf Development.
Recently, the successful artists met for a site visit with key partners in the project. Providing an opportunity to learn more about the history of the site, exploring important details and to further develop their designs.
Following the Brunswick Wharf site visit there was a briefing, held in the impressive Kingsley Room at The Royal Hotel, Bideford.
Simon Friend, Developer, inspired the artists by describing the history of the site, as well as the importance of creativity.
“It’s clear that Brunswick Wharf has a history of things being made on this site, and a long standing connection to design and fabrication. It’s important that this creative ethos and activity comes back to the site, with uplifting and transformative public art”.
Graham Prentice of Mei Loci Landscape Architects gave a presentation demonstrating that the history of Brunswick Wharf will inform how the development will look at its completion. Showing photographs and plans, Graham described how selected materials will reflect and honour the history of the site.
After this, Ian Danby, Director of The Burton at Bideford discussed next steps for the artists as they begin to refine their ideas and tailor their designs more specifically for this exciting opportunity.
