Artist Talk: Printmaking Today

With Hilary Paynter, David Robertson and Leonie Bradley

2pm | £10/£8 concessions

Printmakers Hilary Paynter, Leonie Bradley and David Robertson share insights into their individual practice before embarking on a conversation about printmaking today: where it has come from and its future.

Hilary Paynter has been at the forefront of engraving for over 60 years, creating everything from political satire to large-scale wood engraving collages. As active as ever, Hilary has recently collaborated with the writer, Max Porter, and continues to organise the Society of Wood Engravers’ Annual Exhibition.

Hilary’s daughter, Leonie Bradley, explores the climate crisis and identity through an expanded printmaking practice including animation, installation, artist’s books and collaboration with AI. She is editor of the international journal, Printmaking Today.

Leonie’s husband, David Robertson, responds to the natural environment, walking and drawing in our National Parks. His large-scale, immersive print installation, Suffering in Silence, highlighted male mental health.

This talk is part of a season of printmaking events to celebrate our exhibition Other Worlds: New Works from the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers
