Bideford-born Leslie Worth (1923–2009) was a master of watercolour who brought the transient beauty of landscapes to life. Worth’s work is renowned for its dramatic contrasts of light and shadow, evoking deep emotion and capturing the fleeting moods of weather, nature and place. His artistic vision was often inspired by Romantic and literary traditions, reflected in his ability to transform simple countryside as well as urban scenes into vivid, evocative experiences.
This exhibition features a selection of Worth’s paintings, gathered from the artist’s family and estate, some of which have never been displayed before or are being displayed together for the first time. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to explore the depth and range of Worth’s legacy as one of Britain’s most celebrated watercolourists of the 20th century, whose works are also in many celebrated international collections.
