Why leave a legacy
Since Hubert Coop’s founding collection first became accessible to the public, the Burton at Bideford’s reputation has continued to grow and develop. Not only has the permanent collection grown in size thanks to the generosity of donors, establishing it as a collection of national importance, it has become possible for us to bring international touring exhibitions of the highest standards to North Devon.
The Burton is committed to breaking down barriers to accessing the joys and benefits of art and creativity. In addition to its notable exhibitions programme, it runs a thriving education and outreach programme for learners of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. It also works with the local community on co-curated projects and exhibitions both in the Museum as well as in the temporary exhibition space; and it supports local artists and fresh new talent from local schools and colleges to showcase their work in the same galleries as some of the biggest names in the art world.
As a charity, we rely on the generosity of our supporters and those who leave a legacy.
We gratefully welcome your gift, no matter how large or small.

A note on inheritance tax
As The Burton at Bideford has charitable status, your gift will be exempt from Inheritance Tax.
If you leave at least 10% of your estate to charity, the Inheritance Tax rate on the rest of your estate may also be reduced. The rules are complex and we recommend you seek advice from your solicitor or tax advisor on how they may affect you.
