On Thursday 3rd March, The Burton at Bideford, Art Gallery and Museum were presented with a cheque for £250 by The Arts Society North Devon presented by chairperson Mary-Lu Hick, the generous donation will go towards funding arts projects at the Burton for young people.
The Burton offers children, young people and schools across North Devon the opportunity to visit and take part in arts activities that support creative ambition and well-being. As a charitable organisation, donations made to the Burton are crucial to help support this work and keep all activities free for as many people as possible.
In particular, the generous donation from North Devon Arts Society will help fund the Burton’s popular weekly art club Mini Arts Lab and Arts Lab during school holidays. The weekly sessions are offered free of charge to children under 5 and young people of all ages during school holidays. They offer the opportunity for children to engage in a range of different art activities and learn different techniques.
NDAS – Mary-Lu said ‘ The aim of the Arts Society is to educate so I am delighted that we are helping provide such important educational and creative activities for all young people in our area. The Society exists for all interested in the arts; please see our website, www.tasnd.org.uk, new members welcome
Ian Danby Director of the Burton at Bideford says ‘These activities are vital to helping children and young people achieve creative ambition/potential and can often be the initial spark into a lifetime interest or career in the arts. Each Year we have over 100 sessions reaching 2500 children, the majority of these are free. This donation is vital to enable as many as people as possible from any background to access these activities.’
