The Burton at Bideford, art gallery & museum landed in Westward Ho! Over the weekend with The Burton Art Box (a converted horsebox). Pitching up on the green, we were offering a range of fun art activities. Despite the windy day and the occasional brief shower, over 200 people both locals and holiday makers alike engaged in numerous art activities including creating their own postcards, badges, marbling art creations and scribble bots.
The new Art Box has been launched to take the Burton ‘on the road’. Engaging with new audiences and offering a chance for people who may never have visited or have limited access to the Burton to get involved in fun art projects and learn about the Burton’s very own permanent art collection.
Ian Danby, principal of the Burton at Bideford says:
‘The Burton is passionate about getting out and about reaching those communities who have limited access to arts and culture and struggle to get to the gallery in Bideford. We will be travelling across Torridge over the coming weeks including stops in Appledore and Great Torrington hosting a range of activities. We are also developing a range of ideas for audiences of all ages for the future, including undertaking reminiscence projects and digital headsets where visitors can view and enjoy works of the collection from afar. If you have an event group or space that would be enhanced by a visit from our touring Art Box then give us a call on 01237 471455’
The Burton Art Box will be at Victoria Park on Sunday 25th August and the Torrington Music, Arts & Heritage Festival on Saturday 14th September, so come along and say hello
